Flights are cheapest and most frequent from ‘gateway’ cities in the south of the USA, such as Miami, Dallas and Houston. In addition, there is a good selection of cheap flights available from Philadelphia and New York City. On average, a flight from New York to Cancun will take just over 4 hours.
If you do not have a transfer prearranged, it is easy to get a taxi from the airport to your destination. On average, you can expect a one-way taxi ride to the downtown Cancun or the Hotel Zone to cost around $40. Shuttlebuses are a more economical option. There is an official public shuttle bus service which takes groups of around 10 passengers to various hotels in Cancun and destinations in the Riviera Maya. Typically, a single shuttle bus journey to downtown Cancun will cost less than $15 and take around half an hour.
