Cozumel Flights

Cozumel is served by Cozumel International Airport (CZM) which is situated just 2 miles north of San Miguel. A number of airlines offer flights to and from Cozumel International Airport; some of the most popular include Delta, United, International and American.

As Cozumel’s airport only receives a handful of few international flights, a popular option is to take a flight to Cancun and then get a connecting flight to Cozumel. Flights to Cancun are significantly less expensive than flights to Cozumel and Mayair, a small airline, offers discount flights from Cancun to Cozumel for $70 each way. Another popular alternative is to catch a bus from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and then get the ferry to Cozumel. This route takes about three hours in total and should cost less than $20.

As there are no direct flights to Cozumel from New York, you can expect an indirect flight with one connection to take around 9 hours. Opting for a flight which makes 2 stops often works out significantly cheaper but making 2 stops will at least double your traveling time. Popular stopping points include Dallas, Charlotte and Atlanta. An indirect flight from Los Angeles to Cozumel with just one connection will take at least 7 hours.

If you don’t have transport to take you to your accommodation already reserved, there are taxi ranks just outside of the airport grounds which can transfer you to your destination. Minibuses, also called colectivos, are a more economical option. These vans seat up to 8 passengers and can convey you to your destination for around $15.

Top Things to do in Cozumel

Unsurprisingly, the beaches here tend to make the top of the list in terms of attractions. Paradise Beach, Nachi-Cocom Beach and Palancar Beach are said to be the best in terms of the cleanliness of the water as well as the nearby amenities that are offered. While lounging in the sun is an excellent way to relax, there are also chances to scuba dive, snorkel and rent boats such as catamarans. Guided rides are available and those who already know how to sail can rent a sailboat.

Chankanaab National Park is a great alternative for those who wish to explore the inland areas of this island. It can be found approximately 9 kilometers south of town. A restaurant and a bar are both located here although the main attraction is a large lagoon that houses an equally large population of native iguanas. There are package tours and group rates available for those who bring their family.

Although this may be a lesser-known fact, Cozumel is actually quite famous for its cuisine. The food here is an interesting mélange of Mexican and Caribbean. So, visitors can expect to enjoy such plates as barbecued beef, tacos and fresh fish alongside tasty beverages. The service here is very friendly and the majority of locations speak English. Some of the most popular spots include Alberto’s Beach Bar, Casa Mission and El Morrito III. On property that is a bit out of the way but worth mentioning is La Cocay. There are several Mayan dishes which can be enjoyed here.
